Obesity and Peripheral Artery Disease

Important clinical updates and data were presented at the ISET 2013 25th anniversary conference. Of the information presented, VDM editor in chief Frank Criado, MD, FACS, FSVM, found a talk by Jeff Olin, DO, director of vascular medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, on critical limb ischemia (CLI) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) to be of particular interest, because it is a topic that might not be getting much attention yet. Dr. Olin, in discussing the causes of PAD, connected obesity to CLI. Read Dr. Criado’s blog post about PAD and obesity for further discussion, and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.

Also from ISET, watch a discussion between Dr. Criado and vascular pioneer Frank Veith, MD, on the evolution of endovascular treatment of CLI.
